1. Open the ClickUp Apps page
Log in if you need to. You'll see a section titled API Token near the top.
Good to know. Any workspace member can do this on the free ClickUp plan. You do not need to be the admin.
2. Generate your token
- Click Generate under the API Token heading
- Your token appears, starting with
pk_ - Copy it and paste it somewhere safe (a password manager is ideal)
Important. The token gives whoever holds it the same access you have. If your account can see everything in the workspace, the token can too. If the automation only needs read access to one space, ask the workspace admin to create a limited-permission member account first, and generate the token from there.
3. Test it works
You don't need to test it yourself. Paste the token into whatever tool you're connecting (Zapier, Make, n8n, or a custom automation) and look for a green "Connected" or "Authenticated" indicator. That confirms the token is alive.
If the connection fails, the most common cause is an extra space when you pasted it. Re-copy from ClickUp and try again.
Persistent token. Unlike many tools, ClickUp shows your token any time you come back to this page. You don't have to copy it on the first try, and you can rotate it by clicking Generate again.
