How to Turn Off AI Training in Grok

Before you start

Grok is built into X (formerly Twitter). By default, X uses three types of your data to train Grok:

• Your posts and interactions on X
• Your Grok conversations (prompts and responses)
• Personalization data from your X activity

All three are on by default. If you use X for business or chat with Grok about client work, turn them all off.

Step 1, Open X Settings

1. Go to x.com and log in.
2. Click More (three dots) in the left sidebar.
3. Click Settings and Support, then Settings and privacy.

Step 2, Navigate to Grok Settings

1. Click Privacy and safety.
2. Click Grok (or Grok & Third-party Collaborators).

Step 3, Turn off all three toggles

You'll see up to three settings. Turn them all off:

1. "Allow your posts as well as your interactions, inputs, and results with Grok to be used for training and fine-tuning", turn OFF.
2. "Allow Grok to use your posts for personalization" (or similar), turn OFF.
3. "Allow Grok to store conversation history" (or similar), turn OFF.

Heads up: Some users have reported the training toggle appearing greyed out. If this happens, make sure your date of birth is set in your X profile settings. That usually fixes it.

Step 4, Delete past Grok conversations

If you've already had conversations with Grok that contained sensitive information:

1. On the same Grok settings page, look for "Delete conversation history."
2. Click it to remove your past Grok conversations from X's servers.

What about the Grok API?

If you use the xAI API (the developer platform at console.x.ai), your data is not used for training by default. API data is automatically deleted within 30 days.

The X platform (where most people use Grok) and the xAI API are separate. This guide covers the X platform settings. If you use Grok through the API or through third-party tools, your data is already protected.

Verify it worked

Refresh the Grok settings page and confirm all three toggles stay off. If they do, you're done.
