How to Get a Link for Your Image

Your AI tools need a link to your image, not the image itself. Here's how to get one.

When you're building something with AI, like an email bot, a custom assistant, or an automation, you can't paste an image directly into the prompt. The AI needs a URL (a web link) that points to the image.

This is how your logo, headshot, or avatar shows up in the emails, documents, or outputs your AI creates.

You have two good options: grab the link from your website, or share the image from Google Drive.

Option 1: From your website (recommended)

If the image is already on your website, this is the easiest and most reliable option.

  1. Go to your website and find the page where the image appears
  2. Right-click the image
  3. Click Copy image address (or "Copy image link" depending on your browser)
  4. Paste it. That's your image URL
Why this is the best option: The link won't change as long as your website is up. You won't accidentally break it by moving or renaming a file.

Option 2: From Google Drive

If the image isn't on your website, you can use Google Drive to host it.

  1. Upload the image to Google Drive (or find it if it's already there)
  2. Right-click the file and click Share
  3. Change access to Anyone with the link (set to Viewer)
  4. Click Copy link. You'll get something like: https://drive.google.com/file/d/ABC123/view?usp=sharing
  5. To get a direct image link that works in AI tools, change the URL format to: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=ABC123 (Replace ABC123 with the actual file ID from your link)
Important: If you move, rename, or delete the file in Google Drive, the link will break. Keep the file in a folder you won't reorganize, and don't change the file name.

Which should I use?

Website link

  • Most reliable, won't break
  • Fastest to grab (right-click, done)
  • Use this if the image is already on your site

Google Drive link

  • Works when the image isn't on your website
  • Extra step to format the URL
  • Can break if the file is moved or deleted

Bottom line: If the image is on your website, use that. If it's not, Google Drive works. Just don't move the file.
